The nature of work in the media and entertainment industry, coupled with the aftermath of the pandemic and the recent SAG-AFTRA & WGA strike, has heightened stress and anxiety, affecting the mental health of everyone involved. In certain countries like the UK and the US, this situation has even been referred to as a mental health crisis.
Recent research data from the Czech population indicates a two-to-three-fold increase in the prevalence of anxiety and depression associated with the pandemic, as reported by the Czech Ministry of Health. Considering that one in five Czechs suffers from mental health illnesses, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NUDZ, 2019), and acknowledging the demanding nature of the work—characterised by long hours, poor work-life balance, last-minute schedule changes, bullying, harassment, and lack of support, among other factors—there is a pressing need for change.
This is where our emphasis on prevention becomes crucial. Our aim is to consistently provide support to the producer(s) through timely intervention for the team under their supervision. Strong mental health in individuals not only fosters resilience but also enhances productivity in the workplace.
We offer various forms of support for productions, ranging from an i-act Managing and Promoting Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing course to on-set Mental Health & Wellbeing support. The MHWS plays a crucial role in ensuring that individuals know where to seek help if they encounter problems, preventing bullying and harassment, promoting diversity and inclusion, establishing Personal Wellbeing Plans where applicable, providing guidance on where to find help, offering coaching, implementing positive prevention initiatives for production, and supporting cast and crew through active, non-judgmental listening.
However, recognizing that each production has its unique needs and not all may have the necessary resources, we are committed to identifying and providing the most suitable services to ensure that every project, along with its cast and crew, receives the best possible support.

She started her career in independent features with technical knowledge, management skills, background in H&S, and acute analytical skills. Janka quickly established herself as a unique production individual able to support and manage every department of production, not only in the UK, but also internationally. A couple of years before the COVID-19 pandemic started Janka got involved in the mental well-being support for the crew on and off set.
With the rise of COVID-19 cases worldwide, Janka moved back into H&S and supported international projects as a H&S/C-19 Supervisor. Thanks to her experience in the ever-changing entertainment industry and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on people’s mental health, she quickly realised there was a need for additional support for cast, employees and freelancers. Through her numerous set experiences not only during the pandemic, Janka understood that to support and advocate for the cast's mental health & wellbeing she needs to be part of the new specialisation, Intimacy Coordinating. Janka finished the NFTS intimacy Coordination Introductory Workshop in January 2023 and the ESSEC Business school Diversity and inclusion in the workplace training in September 2023 before applying to the leading Intimacy Professionals Association training. Janka successfully certified at the end of the year 2023. She has worked on two projects since then with the positive assurance from the industry of many more to come in the foreseeable future.
